Looking up at the falls and then back at the surrounding mountains all feels like a bit of a dream. There are also some nice cycle paths around. Its easy to get into the water - you only have to climb over a few rocks and then there are a few rocks at the very beginning of the pool in the shallow area, before it deepens considerably and you can have a proper swim. If you wish to visit Skelwith Force turn left once over the bridge and walk down the path, it'll soon come into view. This route can be combined with Miles Without Stiles Route 11 (Elterwater to Skelwith Bridge, Route For Many) for a longer excursion (16km round trip). When you reach the summit you are rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding area, with Lake Windermere and Elterwater clearly visible. Stickle Ghyll itself looks to be a fantastic (and wet) scramble route and is definitely one to have a go at some time in the future. It is 6.9 km or 4.2 miles to New Dungeon Ghyll. Thats all before even mentioning its famous waterfall Dungeon Ghyll Force, and the valley itself which can offer a more relaxed lower level walking option.
